'உம்மத்', இருண்ட காலங்களில் பெண்கள் படும் பாடுகளின் கதை. முப்பது ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக நடந்த யுத்தம் மனிதர்களிடையே திணித்த அவலத்தையும் நெருக்கடிகளையும் சொல்லும் கதை. இந்த நாவல் மூன்று பெண்களின் துயர இருப்பையும் அதிலிருந்து மீள்வதற்காக அவர்கள் மேற்கொள்ளும் போராட்டங்களையும் கதை நிகழ்வுகளாகக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. தவக்குல், யோகா, தெய்வானை என்ற மூன்று பெண்முனைகளிருந்து நாவல் உருவம் கொள்ளுகிறது. தன்னார்வத் தொண்டாற்றும் தவக்குல் எதிர்கொள்வது மத அதிகாரத்தின் கோபத்தையும் அச்சுறுத்தலையும். போராளியான யோகாவை விரட்டுவது குடும்பத்தினரின் உதாசீனமும் புலனாய்வுப் பிரிவினரின் சந்தேகப் பார்வையும். தெய்வானையை அலைக்கழிப்பது முன்னாள் போராளி என்ற அடையாளம். இந்த மூன்று பெண்களும் அவரவர் துயரத்தை மீறி அடுத்தவருக்கு ஆறுதலாகின்றனர். போருக்குப் பிந்தைய காலமும் மனிதர்கள் மீண்டெழுவதற்குப் பாதகமாகவே இருக்கிறது என்பதை வலியுறுத்திச் சொல்கிறது 'உம்மத்'. இஸ்லாமிய அடிப்படைவாதம், தமிழ்த் தேசியவாதம், சிங்களப் பேரினவாதம் என்று எல்லா வாதங்களும் முடக்கியிருக்கும் இலங்கைச் சூழலில் இந்த உண்மையைச் சொல்ல அசாத்தியமான துணிச்சல் வேண்டும். அந்தத் துணிவு நாவலாசிரியருக்கு இயல்பாகவே இருக்கிறது.©2021 Storyside IN (P)2021 Storyside IN
