Love Jill Mansel Novels

First of all I love all of Jill Mansel novels. I wish all of her books were audible because I would listen to all of them!

Good story covering many issues.

Each of the romantic relationships had issues to deal with from infidelity to racial identity to perceived class differences. All the characters were interesting each in their own way so it was a satisfying read.

Can’t believe I finished that

I am a huge fan of Jill Mansell . Usually can’t wait for a new book to come out . Therefore , I am completely shocked by this one. I couldn’t for the life of me too find motivation behind any of the character’s actions . I feel like at least 3 people wrote this book who kind of forgot to communicate between them and now we have a book with some of the story lines unfinished, some just plain idiotic. I feel like somewhere at the middle of the book author just got tiered of all of them ( as I did ) and decided to wrap things up by rolling dice on what would happen. So disappointed .

Not loving the "cheating pass" given

My 1st impression was the the book is littered with very real life emotions. In that aspect, the book is well written. This author always delivers inner thoughts of people that may not be very candy coated but they are raw and surprisingly realistic. However, unlike previous book, these characters are not very unique. [POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD]. In fact, the characters are quite stereotypical. The younger woman lures the man from his family because she is a villain. The husband is a dope and slave to his base urges. The wife is an oblivious victim. Ok, true enough when it comes to affairs, but the characters never evolve from who they are in the beginning. None of the family members do. They are who they are during the entire 2+ years the book covers. During that time, the book reveals several sub stories involving the adult children of the MC couple. Unfortunately, unlike other books by this author, the mass wandering of the sub-stories does not wrap back around to contribute meaningful or related points to the original breakup story. There were some good concepts, but alas, they ended up half baked. These leave children to also become stereotypical personalities. The worst part of the book comes as the author ignores the MCs relationship as we explore the children they rarely co-parent. For most of the TWO YEARS, the husband shacks up with the other woman. we see pockets on tention between the girlfriend and his younger child, but he appears to take it all in stride and is content. (Again, as readers, we assume this inly because nothing is written about his side of the MC couple except at the end. A crisis occurs which suggest there is a reconciliation between the original husband and wife but there are no meaningful conversations about their marriage, their problems seem to be nonexistent, aside from his penis seeking new territory, and he has no issue with abruptly ending his affair as quickly as he ended his TWENTYTWO YEARS of marriage. For the wife's part... well, she is all forgiving. She patheticly has no need for explanations, apologies, groveling of any kind before she immediately accepts him back into her bed and home. REALLY? 3/4 of the way through as each character is going off to new life adventures with new people, it all just STOPS and jumps ahead to HEAs? Are there chapters missing? Was this poorly edited? Yeah, I think so!!
Hey, I'm all for a good HEA, but none of the five lives seeking closure have any. Nor do they make any sense!!! Especially the MCs. Ok, he wants his family back, and she never got over losing him. Sure, but without the dialog and POVs that lead all these characters to their conclusions, there can't be any understang of why or what lead to the HEA? Instead, we as an audience are asked to make a leap of faith that these decisions were made behind the scenes. We readers are just not privy to them. I, for one, would NEVER take back a man who dropped me and our 22-year marriage in a wink of an eye, then does the same to his lover after living with & screwing her for 2 years!!! WHAT? You chalk it up to the fact that he just likes variety?, change? What makes you think he will stick around after he meets another 20 something? Nope! And the same goes for the daughter, Cloe. Her man dropped her because he believed her unfaithful, though she was not. So now he's decided what? That he trusts her now? That he was mistaken? And she believes he will trust her going forward? Not accuse her and break it off again? And the son, Shawn, is he just walking away from his daughter? Are they going to have any relationship? Is he going to at least support her???? Maybe, who knows, because WHERE'S THE CONVERSATION?

I gave it 2 stars because it had potential, and not all have a HEA. I appreciated that.
