Lucy Maud Montgomery, the Canadian author best known for her "Anne of Green Gables" series, also wrote a small number of stand-alone novels that have become among the most admired and well-read books in Canadian literature. As their friendship deepens into love, Eric learns that Kilmeny's muteness stems from emotional trauma and family secrets.
