Jeannie grew up with autism, but no one around her knew it. Twirling Naked in the Streets will take you on a journey into the mind of a child on the autism spectrum; a child who grows into an adolescent, an adult, and becomes a wife, mother, student, and writer with autism.
This is a gripping memoir of a quirky, weird, but gifted child who grows up never quite finding her niche. It took 38 years to discover that all the issues, problems, and weirdness she experienced were because she had Asperger's Syndrome (AS), a form of high-functioning autism. The tale begins at age three and takes us all the way through her diagnosis. Along the way she explains autism in a way that will have fellow "Aspies" crying tears of joy at being understood, and "neuro-typical" people really starting to grasp the challenges that autistic people face every moment of every day.

I also have a daughter that is 6 now and I have been fighting to get her an autism diagnosis (Asperger’s) because she is so smart and so verbal. However she has zero social skills Except with me. She repeats lots of things she hears from TV and people. She is a toe walker, Spinning constantly, Flapping, takes everything literally, no sense of danger etc. She has been red flagged because of her brother autism and possibly her father (he is working on getting diagnosed also) But as of now they have diagnosed her with SDD which is social Developmental delay. Which offers her no help in school or the ability to get speech therapy or occupational therapy etc.
I want to thank you for writing this book. There are so many things you have mentioned About your childhood that reminds me of my daughter and it is going to keep me fighting for her diagnosis.
Thank you Jeannie!

Where does Twirling Naked in the Streets and No One Noticed rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I was really impressed. It is great being a female on the spectrum and reading this! I related so much and I'm very happy this was my first choice for when it comes to books on autism. I couldn't believe how specific everything was and how much of it just added up. I have amnesia from trauma so it brought back a lot of memories and has helped me get through all this. Thank you for writing this Jeannie if you're reading this. <3What was one of the most memorable moments of Twirling Naked in the Streets and No One Noticed?
I remembered her relationship with her family the most because I've been healing from living with an alcoholic father and neglectful mother who always tried to change me into something I wasn't.What does Alicia A. Diaz bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I feel like I was able to take everything in a lot better, I struggle with reading because I constantly have to read it over and over. I felt a lot more engaged and less distracted listening to her.If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Not sure how to answer this question.Any additional comments?
PLEASE WRITE MORE BOOKS!The first book I ever read on this subject

Would you consider the audio edition of Twirling Naked in the Streets and No One Noticed to be better than the print version?
I only have the audio edition. What did you like best about this story?
When I first started listening I swore that my own 6 year old traveled into the future, wrote this book and came back to publish the story of her life! Soon after listening to the entire book, my daughter was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. This story takes you right into the world of autism from an insider look.
So familiar
