Le giornate in cui sta per succederti qualcosa di straordinario sembrano quasi sempre normalissime. Anna, commessa in un negozio di moda del centro di Milano, da questo momento di relax al parco Sempione non si aspetta nulla. Tantomeno che la ragazza un po’ triste con il passeggino, che ha visto spesso da quelle parti, di punto in bianco le chieda di tenere il suo bambino di due anni, per qualche ora. E invece proprio questo gesto dà il via a una catena di eventi destinati a cambiare direzione alle vite di quattro donne.
La giovane madre, Agnese, sta cercando una via d’uscita da una guerra famigliare ormai conclamata. Lorenza, la sua migliore amica, è presa al laccio di un amore tormentato con un uomo famoso quanto inaffidabile. Luciana, dirigente della Questura, si divide tra un lavoro impegnativo e l’ospedale dove il marito lotta con la morte in attesa di un trapianto. E Anna? Lei non ha mai niente di interessante da raccontare. O almeno così sembra. Nel momento in cui Agnese si allontana dal parco, lasciando dietro di sé suo figlio Leo, è come se si rovesciasse una clessidra e i granelli di sabbia prendessero a scendere, rapidi, inesorabili. Nel giro di poco più di ventiquattr’ore, le vite delle quattro donne cominciano a intrecciarsi, in modo sempre più fitto. Ciascuna dovrà fare le proprie scelte ma tutte capiranno che non sono sole, anche se credevano di esserlo.
Un romanzo perfettamente congegnato, una storia incalzante e corale, una corsa a perdifiato in cui a ogni metro, a ogni minuto, ogni cosa può ancora cambiare.
