In Michigan, a short, slight and well-dressed man nicknamed “Slim” was also arrested for counterfeiting. He was the tip of a hellish iceberg well known in Detroit as the Purple Gang. The gang was imploding. Slim ran an infamous speakeasy in the North Woods of Michigan known as Club Manitou. Locals well knew its tunnels. Some claimed they spread like a cancer beneath the sandy shores of Little Traverse Bay.

But now, as the Depression tightened its screws, few remembered the Great War. Memories were fading exceedingly fast, except those held by Lenny Hook. He still dreaded the thought of what Professor Soper’s fate might have been 12 years earlier. Most from Operation Manitou had simply vanished.
