Inception meets Westworld in an original SF novel about a parallel universe only a dream away.

In Tibetan Buddhism, tulpas are human-like creatures created through deep meditation. In this compelling story, tulpas take over the sub-conscious world in a parallel universe - where they quickly become invincible. For Bruce Lang and Risa Ferraro, on this side of that dream world, the tulpa army is just a puzzling nightmare. But for their counterparts on the other side, Alex Brooks and Lydia Cabrera, the tulpa army - Dominion - is far too real. As the states of reality and dreams converge in an inevitable clash that may destroy all consciousness in both universes, the four must band together to save what is left of reality.

A metaphysical framework with a conspiracy action thriller execution. The ideas here are big ones that seem interesting distilled down into a multiple layered conflict of across the metaphysical ideas, pulpy action tropes, and just enough weirdness. I found myself enjoying the philosophy of things more than the execution of them. It felt like a fictional text to introduce high minded ideas accessibility. The idea of fighting against one’s shadow self and construction of reality is a brilliant one but Tulpas executes it in a relatively general haphazard way by making a militia forced called Dominion for our leads to fight against, be imprisoned by, try to avoid, and seek to overthrow. It shoehorns wild ideas into a generic action thriller. I am glad I checked out this book since it left me with some philosophy minded universals that felt bigger than the book while the book itself felt a little random at times and left me feeling a little lacking. The narrator does an ok job with the material and has an accessible easy going manner of delivery including nailing some hard to pronounce terms.
