Resumen del Editor

"Tim Campbell narrates this audiobook in a laid-back, nicely paced manner that makes Siegel's scary facts about the nation's problematic drinking water just a bit easier to swallow...This audiobook is important to anyone who drinks water." (AudioFile magazine)

New York Times best-selling author Seth M. Siegel shows how our drinking water got contaminated, what it may be doing to us, and what we must do to make it safe.

If you thought America’s drinking water problems started and ended in Flint, Michigan, think again. From big cities and suburbs to the rural heartland, chemicals linked to cancer, heart disease, obesity, birth defects, and lowered IQ routinely spill from our taps.

Many are to blame: the EPA, Congress, a bipartisan coalition of powerful governors and mayors, chemical companies, and drinking-water utilities - even NASA and the Pentagon. Meanwhile, the bottled-water industry has been fanning our fears about tap water, but bottled water is often no safer.

The tragedy is that existing technologies could launch a new age of clean, healthy, and safe tap water for only a few dollars a week per person.

Scrupulously researched, Troubled Water is full of shocking stories about contaminated water found throughout the country and about the everyday heroes who have successfully forced changes in the quality and safety of our drinking water. And it concludes with what America must do to reverse decades of neglect and play-it-safe inaction by government at all levels in order to keep our most precious resource safe.

Great!

Fantastic and enlightening. Not to mention the frightening realities of drinking water in the US and around the world. I listened to the audiobook but will also now get a physical copy for my bookshelf.

An important book on a critical issue

If you’ve suspected that there might be a bigger water issue in the US— beyond just Flint and Newark, there’s compelling evidence that you’re right.

This is Seth’s second book on water (the first focused on technology and conservation), and this one is a hit to the gut. I came away from Troubled Water feeling angry that more hasn’t been done to fix our water infrastructure, but encouraged that there are concrete ways to make water safer right now and in the years to come.

Anyone who drinks water and cares about their health needs to read this.

Great coverage of America's water system

This was a fantastic and engaging look at how water is delivered to Americans, how the system is flawed, and how to improve it. The author does a great job at making the science engaging and understandable and the book was interesting from start to finish

Water Treat Expert

As a water treat expert I found the book extremely informative. It opened my mind to different areas of the industry. I already knew the EPA and municipal water systems had problems and this just put the nail in the coffin.

One sided but still informative

There’s an obvious agenda here but consistent all the way through. Good info to know

Whether editing of book and/or narration, terribly boring

A great and important topic, but terribly boring and uninspiring narration that does its best to sound as robotically and lifelessly delivered as possible. And it succeeds with that in spades. I completely lost track at times with the pacing or specific points, very disappointing.

Broad focus

I probably was not the target audience for this. I was hoping for more actionable knowledge to use for my home. While there is a tremendous detail about the failure of government and the dangers of relying on epa standards. The actions were more oriented towards the country at large. While not a bad thing. I wish more time would have been directed towards what I can do for me and my family- it seemed like an after thought at the very end
