Trials and tragedies are notorious for keeping sloppy appointment books. We never quite know when they will knock on the door of our lives. But knock they will. God does not shield His children from trials; in fact, some trials come our way simply because we are God’s children. A lot of it doesn’t make much sense. But that is precisely when God does His best work—ironically, in the darkness of our trials. James is a letter written precisely to encourage God’s children when the fog rolls in. Though James does not give us all the answers, it does offer some of the answers to why bad things happen to good people.
