Michael and Garbi have ignored the warning, “You cannot cheat time,” and travel ten thousand years into Akil’s past, hoping to stop Gau from destroying their sun; Michael learns of the Night Lord’s plan for him and tries to fulfill his obligation by helping Argi win on the battlefield.

After meeting Luken (Argi’s sovereign), Michael tries to persuade him to help with his dilemma, but Luken cannot because the other cities have dragged him into a war, but before sending Michael away, Luken changes his mind and agrees to help with his task, but only after Michael ends the war.

Michael agrees to help, and Luken arranges a marriage between him and his daughter, but Michael learns that moving through time will cost him more than he imagined.

The Regime joins “Intransigent” to compete against Abaddon and his army, recruiting as many planets to the cause as possible. Due to the continued threat to Wu Luli’s life, Supreme Commander Porter sends her to the Mar Novian Saiph training facility for protection. After giving her an alias (Heather), she leaves to train Quels (healers) how to defend themselves.

On Mar Nova, Saiph trainees prepare for their last evaluation, which will take place on Vshokk the next day. Since it is a primitive planet full of vicious wildlife, their survival depends on skill, unity, and respect. Instructors divided the cadets into six groups. Minan (a female Zwerizian teleporter) and Nathan, an Earthian Quel, are on the same team. When Minan learns that Nathan no longer finds her attractive, the tension between them during their trial causes severe consequences.
