Acerca de esta escucha

In "Tragedy in America," former Special Forces soldier and police officer Cory Evans delivers a raw and unflinching memoir about the American dream gained and lost. From the coal fields of Kentucky to the mountains of Afghanistan, Evans devoted his life to service—only to see it shatter in a moment of crisis during one of America's most turbulent periods.

Rising from humble beginnings, Evans achieved remarkable success through determination and sacrifice. At 19, he became one of the youngest Special Forces operators in the Army, serving multiple tours overseas. Back home, he continued his mission to protect and serve as a Louisville Metro Police officer, building a life that embodied his ideals of service: a loving family, a beautiful home, and a meaningful career protecting his community.

But in 2020, as cities erupted in protests following the Breonna Taylor case, Evans found himself at the epicenter of a national crisis. Working endless shifts during the riots, witnessing violence against fellow officers and destruction in his community, Evans made a fateful decision in a moment of exhaustion that would cost him everything he'd spent his life building.

This deeply personal memoir explores the complex intersection of duty, justice, and human fallibility. Evans offers a unique perspective on law enforcement, military service, and the price of split-second decisions in high-pressure situations. Neither an excuse nor an apology, "Tragedy in America" is one man's honest account of the thin line between service and sacrifice, and how quickly the American dream can transform into an American tragedy.

About the Author:
Cory Evans's journey from the coal fields of eastern Kentucky to Special Forces operator and law enforcement officer embodies both the promise and complexity of American service. At just 17, Evans enlisted in the U.S. Army, demonstrating extraordinary capability by qualifying for Special Forces at 19—making him one of the youngest Green Berets in service. His distinguished military career included tours in Afghanistan and Germany, where he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant through exceptional leadership and dedication.

Transitioning to civilian life, Evans channeled his commitment to service into law enforcement, joining the Louisville Metro Police Department. His combination of military expertise and community-focused policing earned him numerous commendations in both fields. A devoted family man, Evans balances his passion for service with his role as father to two young sons, sharing his love of outdoor activities and martial arts.

Today, Evans brings his unique perspective and experiences to his writing, offering readers an intimate look at the challenges faced by those who choose a life of service. His expertise in CrossFit and pankration reflects his continued dedication to physical and mental discipline, qualities that have helped him navigate both triumph and adversity.
