Wonderful listening experience.

If you could sum up Torn by the Sun in three words, what would they be?

Love conquers all.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Torn by the Sun?

When the family found out the were going to an internment camp.

Which scene was your favorite?

Can't say...would give away a very powerful ending.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both..in different places.

Any additional comments?

This was a wonderful romance with a true historical background. I did a bit of research and it looks like the author did his, too. Depiction of conditions in the camps was very accurate.

Heart warming WWII love story

Torn by the Sun is a Historical Romance that begins pre WWII in San Francisco, and then takes us all the way thru the wars' end. Honestly, I was surprised at how deeply I reacted to the story. I feel I have to share Jesse and Keiko's story with you, along with my thoughts on the whole matter. Lets begin with a short rundown of what their story is about...

Keiko and her family are of Japanese decent who live and work in San Francisco. Her parents own and operate the best Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood. They are honorable people that keep to themselves. Jesse is your typical All American young man who works at his uncles realty office near Keiko's restaurant. Jesse lives with his widowed mother and enjoys the single life, until he meets Keiko. Keiko notices right away that Jesse is taken with her. Keiko's father also notices, and commands that she no longer “visit” with Jesse when he comes by for lunch. See, Keiko's daddy is not down with her dating a non-Japanese boy! So the sneaking around begins, lol. I did say short rundown, didn't I? Sorry! Jesse and Keiko are put through a lot from the beginning of their relationship, with the US Government screwing the Japanese residents over, and how this affects Keiko and her family's lives.

This story has a lot of historical accuracy in it, which brought to light some things for me. I did not know this is how it was for the Japanese residents, and frankly it upset me. I was outraged at the living conditions of the camps their own government, forced the Japanese into after the war started. Treating them like criminals solely based on their nationality was understandable to a point, but then to add insult to injury, drafting the same people into their war after accusing them of consorting with the enemy! The fact that the Japanese harbor no ill will towards this government just shows what tremendous character they have. Keiko's love for Jesse never waivers throughout her world turning upside down, and after her family endures a rape, a murder trial, and above all else the loss of their freedom. I was just speechless about the acts of horror that took place in that camp, speechless. Keiko's character is smart, strong, and confident, one that demands respect. Jesse's character is strong, good natured, and loyal, making him the guy you root for to win Keiko's heart.

Jesse and Keiko's story is a sweet romance, one that reminds you of how love can truly stand the test of time, and survive a world war.
