This book was so good. Dre messed around on his girl with one of her family members and got upset when she returned the favor. I wasn't expecting the ending, I didn't see that coming. I really hope it's gonna be a part 2!

This is the first book by Ms. Jade Jones and i'm sure it won't be the last. Ms. Jones knows how to write a very entertaining tale that is full with characters that are scheming and will keep you guessing.

Good Story And Descriptive Characters And Situations... Not To Mention Hot Sex Scenes... The Narrator Was Okay, He Messed Up A Few Times But It Didn't Take Away From The Story...

Gripping Drama but VERY EXPLICIT SEX AND VIOLENCE!

Would you listen to Torn Between a Goon and a Gangsta again? Why?

I thought this was a well-done book, and gave it very high marks across the board. However, I wouldn't listen to it again. The characters were just too violent and hopeless, and after listening, I felt an overwhelming sense of despair. Perhaps that is a testament to the skill of the author, because she really caused me to have strong feelings for a long time after listening to this book. Afterwards, I felt really depressed, and hoped that this was just a story; and that no real people had lives that were filled with so many sad, unfortunate choices. I guess that means that she wrote some very vivid descriptions!

What does Carl Atkins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Carl Atkins was very good as a narrator, and I would definitely search out more books narrated by him. However, there were a noticeable amount of distracting glitches, such as repeated sentences, a tongue-tied "bleh" noise, and the use of an audio noise gate--just editing errors that are easily fixed. I also would have liked for him to have made more use of pauses and spacing between the scenes. Often, I would be listening to a scene about one character, and it would seem to just magically morph into a scene involving another character. A little artful vocal spacing or use of silence or pauses between the paragraphs would have helped immensely with those transitions, because with audiobooks, all we have is the narration to help set the scene and keep the numerous details straight in our minds. It's not like we can easily flip back a few paragraphs to realize that we have changed characters and perspectives. It was too bad, because I enjoyed his narration otherwise, and thought it really added a lot to the story.

Any additional comments?

I don't recall being warned in the description about the explicit sex and violence in this book. The scenes were not gratuitous, but clearly a part of the story, and actually quite well written. I didn't mind the scenes, but they really caught me off guard, and I think that people might like to be warned about what to expect. It might actually become a selling point!

Great story with shiesty friends and family...no need for enemies. Narrator had a great voice, but should have rerecorded his errors and shortened the pauses between chaoters.

I actually really liked this book!

I was a little concerned at first because there wasn't any reviews at all om this book. At first, when I started listening the narrator read too fast to the point where I had to start the book over twice. But about 4 or so chapters later I was all into it and the narrator calmed down and became the characters. Actually a pretty good narrator at that. Book was really good alot of action, twists and deep betrayals! Drama just how I like it!! Will keep you entertained and the ending is crazy but was left to be continued by a second book. Great story!!
