Tommy’s Oblong Box

“What are you building Daddy?” Daddy looked at me as he had been looking at me since Mommy left us in June. It was July now and he seemed really sad. “Oh, it’s just an oblong box,” he said finally with a long sigh. I didn’t know what that meant so after a couple of seconds Daddy explained it to me, “It’s just a wooden box made from pine.” Daddy was a carpenter. He almost always made things from pine. He built pine tables, pine beds, pine chairs and one time even a pine gun for me to play war with. Daddy was great. Daddy loved me. And now he was building a pine box.
