Acerca de esta escucha
A fascinating examination of the rapid concentration of global capital, with chapters that focus on China and Russia.
In Titans of Capital, Peter Phillips, a political sociologist, poses three key research questions: To what extent do the wealthy influence—or even dominate—decision making that affects all of us in society? Who are the most powerful people? And how does the accumulation of capital work?
Networks of wealthy individuals have evolved since the COVID-19 pandemic, and Titans of Capital shows how the financial investments of transnational elites threaten human rights and the future of the planet. Phillips warns that while continued concentration of global capital increases the profits enjoyed by the global economy's "Titans,", it also increases global inequality, starvation, and civil unrest, threatening the lives of the hundreds of millions of people living in extreme poverty. It is imperative to ask how we can reverse the concentration of Titan wealth and revitalize grassroots democracy unbridled by extreme wealth. Identifying 117 global Titans by name and exposing the networks and interests that unite them provides listeners opposed to militarism and committed to economic equality with crucial tools to directly engage the power elite who endanger life on earth.

For those who lived through this period, this book is a painful but gripping read. First serialized online, it has garnered praise from the world over for its steady tone, granular detail, narrative precision, and moral passion. The times felt like a blur because normal life was so upended in unthinkable ways. This book operates as a tool of focus as if on a camera lens, turning fuzzy images into clear pictures. Therein lies the pain. The author is listed as the institutional name because it is true. The results herein are the product of a vast community of researchers, nearly all ...

Historia
Children are not passive victims of oppression, but their resistance and struggle for equality has been largely ignored by the wider social justice movement—until now. In this groundbreaking manifesto, Eloise Rickman argues that it's time to stop viewing children as less than adults and start fighting for their rights to be taken seriously. Radical, compassionate, and profoundly hopeful, this powerful new book signals the start of a long-overdue conversation about how we treat children. It's Not Fair is a call to embrace children’s liberation and the possibility of a better, fairer world.

Alyssa Mann isn’t adventurous, not since her husband died and she found herself the single mom of a teenage daughter. But there’s no way to avoid celebrating the big 4-0, so when her best friends drag her out for drinks and a tarot reading, she throws caution to the wind and decides to see what the spirits have to say. It’s all fun and games, until she wakes up the next morning with a wicked hangover—and a ghost perched on the edge of her bed.

Historia
Lola de La Peña yearns to be free from the societal expectations of a young Mexican lady of her station.
