A boy laughs and shivers under the covers as funnymen and murderers stream into his bedroom at night. A passion ignites in him to fly on the air, too. He performs for his parents over the kitchen Zenith from a basement microphone. When he could be dating girls in high school, he visits radio stations. As he matures, his path to becoming a broadcaster is challenged by family losses and missed opportunities. The story is abundant with personal recollections of the waning Golden Age of Radio and the first decade of rock ‘n’ roll.
