Christian Book Award - Finalist 2021 (print)!!

According to Eugene Cho, Christians should never profess blind loyalty to a party. Any party. But they should engage with politics, because politics inform policies which impact people.

In Thou Shalt Not Be a Jerk: A Christian’s Guide to Engaging Politics, Cho encourages listeners to remember that hope arrived—not in a politician, system, or great nation—but in the person of Jesus Christ.

With determination and heart, Cho urges listeners to stop vilifying those they disagree with—especially the vulnerable—and asks Christians to follow Jesus and reflect His teachings. In this book that integrates the pastoral, prophetic, practical, and personal, listeners will be inspired to stay engaged, have integrity, listen to the hurting, and vote their convictions.

“When we stay in the Scriptures, pray for wisdom, and advocate for the vulnerable, our love for politics, ideology, philosophy, or even theology, stop superseding our love for God and neighbor.”

Eugene Cho has a great, biblical, Jesus-like outlook on the political system. Politics are ugly, on all sides, and yet Jesus loves the republican, Democrat, and the Independent. This read is great, and even if you disagree with him on certain points (which is okay), you will definitely be forced to think about how you carry yourself as an American Christian. Thank you Eugene for your humility, study, and graceful words. This book is needed.

This is a good book - based on scripture to help remind Christians who they regardless of their political affiliation or views.

Wish All Christians Would Read This Book

This should be required 2020 reading. Be engaged, but not obsessed. God is King. No “side” is the moral authority. Eugene, you are the real deal.

Much needed

Read the whole book hoping that it was not just a liberal slant on politics but was disappointed by the content. It seemed disconnected in different chapters like the author lost his train of thought and was just filling in things until he finally returned to the precept of the reason for the title. I wish I hadn't bought this book.

Mind numbing - advertised improperly

Encourages Christians to use the government to force socialist values on society under the guise of 'Jesus said to love your neighbor and care for the poor' and 'government impacts people so we should "advocate" and use politics to force everyone else to do good'

left-wing biased, uses scripture out of context
