Woke, revisionist retelling of Didion's life and work.

Uninterested in the woman as a reality, the author of this book reimagines Joan Didion through the lens of current woke political narratives and shallow Marxist critique. The aim of the author seems to be to capture praise for her own virtue by apologizing for Didion when Didion's politics did not match current leftist radicalization and reimagining Didion's life and work to somehow match some fantasy version of what she thinks Didion should represent as a public figure. It is not surprising that this book came out after Didion's death. No doubt Didion would have cast a sardonic eye toward this author, her lack of nuanced appraisal, her "joiner" mentality, and her need to be seen as espousing the "correct" viewpoint
