Kit Bayne is a confidence operator. He builds fictions for a living, maintains them under pressure, and exits before anyone asks the right questions. He’s good at this. He knows he’s good at this.

Eleven stories. Eleven jobs. Ages twenty-two to forty-two — the education of a particular kind of professional. A woman named Maren Falk who keeps appearing. A warrant in the background that hasn’t quite resolved. And a recurring, sincere certainty that Kit is the most capable person in the room, which is usually, but not always, accurate.
