Resumen del Editor

On the longest night of the year, Jenny Majesky loses everything in a devastating house fire. But among the ashes she finds an unusual treasure hidden amid her grandfather's belongings, one that starts her on a search for the truth, and on a path toward a life that she never imagined. The Winter Lodge, a remote cabin owned by her half sister on the shores of Willow Lake, becomes a safe refuge for Jenny, where she and local police chief Rourke McKnight try to sort out the mysteries revealed by the fire.

But when a blizzard traps them together, Jenny, accustomed to the safe predictability of running the family bakery, suddenly doesn't feel so secure. For even as Rourke shelters her from the storm outside, she knows her heart is at risk. Now, following her dreams might mean walking away from her one chance at love.

Enjoyed the narration.

I will admit that I usually do not enjoy books that are narrated by females, however this performance was a pleasant surprise. The portrayals of the various characters were well done.

Not the sane quality as The Apple Orchard

This novel lacks much of the warmth and novelty that has this author's later (I assume) works. The adult relationships are fairly standard of the romance novel plot. Half of the book is from the perspective of pre-teens, very sophomoric. Must of the characters have unhappy backgrounds. Half the teenage girls in the book are pregnant. The description also suggests there 's a mystery but it has yet to surface by half way through the book. I'm bored.

Repetitive

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Maybe - if they didn't read the first book

Would you ever listen to anything by Susan Wiggs again?

Yes

Do you think The Winter Lodge needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. I usually love this series, but this revisited too many scenes from one of the first books of the series.

SOMEWHAT DISAPPOINTED!!

The story was very slow. I personally didn't enjoy the inclusion of all the recipes. With that many recipes incorporated within the story, a PDF should have been offered along with this book. After the first book in the series, I was anxious to continue with the next release. Now, I'm not sure if I want to continue. As for the narrator, Joyce Bean was ok. There are better ones but for this series, she was adequate. So that I can listen to the next in the series, I think I'm going to listen to something else and come back to this series. Maybe that will help.

Great book but....

The story, while a little predictable, filled the need for a good cozy book. The narrator, as usual, did a great job! My only complaint was that it kept skipping. Sometimes it would skip 2 or 3 seconds and other times 30 seconds. After skipping back to try to see what was missed several times. I gave up and would just listen through.
