Resumen del Editor

***Destiny - is it really inevitable?***

*Join Viktor as he uncovers part of his past in this collection of Warden Global books and short stories.*

Hidden in the shadows is a supernatural world, filled with wonders that coexist alongside our own. Standing on the threshold of both, he fights for those who can’t protect themselves. It isn’t fun; it isn’t glorious, but it is important.

There are some hard choices that need to be made, and when he’s done, nothing will be the same.

Collection includes:

  • The Wanderer Awakens, Warden Global Book One
  • "Sleipnir's Heart" (short story)
  • Rise of the Storm Bringer, Warden Global Book Two
  • "Lamia's Curse" (short story)

Best credit I've ever spent!

If you're looking for a great story, look no further. This book has it all! Ken Lange puts a brilliant spin on some of the oldest tales in mythology, bringing this book into the modern era. I can't wait to see where this story goes!

Awesome series!

The Wanderer Awakens:
So, based on the author's recommended reading order, I read this book after reading Accension, which was well written urban fantasy. This story is written in the same world, and mentions some of the inhabitants of the other series, so it made sense. However, the origins of the characters came from an entirely different place than I expected! I was both surprised and amused by the references to classic sci-fi and mythology inherent here.
While I initially was curious as to the choice of narrator, because of the vast difference between his brash baritone and the previous book's mild tenor, I came to realize he couldn't have casted it better. May has the darker undertones necessary for the main character, and the fluidity to also hit on the snotty undertones of the female supporting roles. This is my second book by this author, and I'm on to the next!

Sleipnir's Heart:
So, you see the length of this short and wonder why? It's a necessary elaboration about Viktor's early days, after waking up in the Carpathians, told as a story to Kira.  After reading this, you will understand more fully Viktor's bond with his ship, Sleipnir.  Well done, and completely worth a couple bucks.
Rise of the Storm Bringer:
So, at the end of the story so far,  I find myself relieved that the main plotlines have been tied up nicely, and the questions left unanswered are leaving the series open to continue. This is solid urban fantasy, combined with multi-pantheon mythology, combined with science fiction. While that may sound like a strange mashup, Lange has managed to throw it all together in a BELIEVABLE modern day setting! New Orleans has always been home to strange happenings, so it's a great setting for the majority of this series. Very well done, by the author and narrator.

Lamia's Curse:
Lots of action, and an interesting take on the Lamia. It's hard to review  this without giving anything away, but you should absolutely read this if you're reading the series. It contains key elements to the main story arc.

Wonderfully entertaining read!

I just completed and thoroughly enjoyed the Warden Global Omnibus. I suggest getting the Omnibus edition since it gives you the complete (so far) story of Viktor Engel Warden and his amazing world of myth and future chaos. There are two short stories included in the Omnibus, and I would have been one of those people who bought everything by the author and was then disappointed that short stories are short. The Omnibus is the way to go, for realz.

Another warning, and the only other POSSIBLE negative I can say about the book: there are a lot of characters (not GRRM *lot,* but a lot) introduced at the beginning, and not all of their story arcs are satisfied (yet). For audio listeners, it might help to either write yourself a cheat sheet or listen carefully so you can figure out who is who as the novels progress. I wished several times I could have backed up just a few pages to remind myself, *Wait, who was that?* Voice actor/narrator Andrew Pond does an excellent job on the narration, and he has a deep baritone to die for. (Yum!) He does a good job of altering voices to match their characters, too, so maybe losing track is on me. :)

Overall, those are my only complaints. Viktor tells his story in first person and you, the reader, know what he knows (and you don't know what he doesn't, so neeener! :-P) There are some roll-your-eyes moments, but by the end of the first novel those make a lot more sense and you say, *Oh. Well, that explains ___.* You either have to be willing to suspend disbelief for this novel or … open your mind and believe it ALL. (*cue evil laughter here.*)

Essentially, this is a FUN story. There's a lot of violence, a minimum of sex, and a lot of (intentional) hopping around from the past, Viktor's memory, to the present, to the future, etc. The characters, especially Viktor, Kira, and (surprisingly) Mir are NOT real … but they FEEL genuine. I'm starting the author's other series, (which apparently takes place in the same universe and involves crossover characters) but I DO want Book 3 of Warden Global soon!!

Great series!

The Warden Global series takes place in the same world as Ken Lange's Vigiles Urbani Chronicles. So far the two are only slightly connected. This world is full of magic! In this series, the author brings in a bit of mythology as well, making this world even more interesting. Even though both series are only slightly connected, knowing they are connected makes both even more interesting. I can't wait to see what other surprises the author plans to bring into these stories! He certainly has me hooked! Andrew Pond does an outstanding job with the narration.

Love it

Really enjoyed this! Much better with the new narrator. Love this story. I don’t feel like 20 year olds have enough experience to be hero’s and leaders. I can really appreciate the older, more experienced characters in these books. Unique story line hooks you in.

What a refreshing take on this genre.

First go to the author’s Facebook page and read about how to read the Nine realms books in order. He has another Omnibus also well written and Narrated in this world. You will not regret it. I will not say much except to say this is gritty and well narrated. Never heard of either narrators in this or the other Omnibus. Both are excellent for their characters. As for this one, Victor is a great character who grows over the course of the story. A father who cares deeply for his daughter. He takes his duties seriously but doesn’t take himself too seriously except in how he judges his shortcomings. He isn’t the reluctant hero. He isn’t the anti-hero. He is a peacemaker. And the monster that makes him become or so he thinks. Blessed are the peacemakers....It’s an interesting problem he wrestles with in the books and that problem is bigger to protect his daughter from becoming a monster like him than destroying the big bads themselves. He and his daughter have a great relationship as well. Bright pink hummers. What a great kid.
