H.G. Wells’ 1898 novel War of the Worlds has lived on through countless radio and movie adaptations. It’s a testament to Wells’ ability to stoke elemental fears in a story that many view as an allegory for xenophobia and British imperialism.

Wells’ original story begins with an unnamed narrator witnessing a "meteor" crashing south of London. From the crash site, gruesome-looking Martians emerge, terrorizing the planet with three-legged "fighting-machines". The tale follows the narrator as he runs for his survival.

Walter Zimmerman takes on a British voice in his urgent performance of this thrilling, resonant science-fiction classic.

This was so captivating. I can't imagine getting so physically sick that I had to hospitalized as they did when it first aired on radio, but I did hold my breath a few times. ;-) Every minute was suspenseful.
