Resumen del Editor

Here, freelance writer Aaron Glantz hones in on the momentous impact of the Iraq war on injured veterans as they return home.

The War Comes Home is structured around the different experiences of US veterans of the Iraq war. Sections of the book are dedicated to the difficulties of reintegrating to civilian life after coming home, living with disability, unemployment, dealing with the military bureaucracy, suicide, and homelessness - as well as more upbeat sections about families, communities and fellow veterans pulling together to help each other.

Each section is told primarily through personal stories of Iraq war veterans and their families, backed-up by statistics. Some veterans appear as regular characters throughout the book, some only appear for a short discussion. Such a structure shows both the scope and the humanity of the issues at stake. In this way, The War Comes Home is conversational, readable, and informative.

A biased but thoughtful look at soldier's issues

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

While this book is slightly biased to the left side of the political spectrum, I would recommend this book to any friend struggling with the same issues addressed within. The stories of returning veterans and wounded warriors will help to show they are not alone in their struggles and trials. The author also provides a plethora of helpful websites, hotlines, phone numbers, and Veteran Service Organizations' information that could be very useful to those seeking assistance with problems.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I found it very interesting to read this because of the point of view. It was written by a war correspondent that was dealing with the aftermath of those things he witnessed covering our most recent conflict.

Would you listen to another book narrated by David Stampone?

I would probably not listen to anything else by Mr. Stampone, but I would recommend this book.

Did The War Comes Home inspire you to do anything?

I was not inspired to anything that I was not already doing or planning. But the book did inform me of some of the organizations that are attempting to help our returning soldiers.
