In “The Unheard Nerds,” Karen Dynan, former chief economist at the U.S. Treasury Department, reviews a new book by former Vice-Chair of the Federal Reserve Alan Blinder on the failure of American economists to influence U.S. policymaking. Dynan agrees with Blinder that the problem is mostly structural, but suggests ways in which economists and policymakers can begin to bridge the gulf between them at a time when good policymaking seems more difficult than ever.
