Skylar Whelan’s marriage is in shambles. A budding author, she returns home to live in a cottage on her parents’ property to finish her novel, heal her wounds in the small town where she grew up. Although she seeks peace and solitude, that soon ends when Skye is drawn into local life by a neighbour.
Meanwhile, Staff Sergeant Noah Rimes, new head of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police detachment, still recuperating from his own traumas, is trying to keep his head above water with a number of nuisance felonies and break-and-enters. He wonders if there is a connection, some nefarious grand plot that connects them all.
When a heinous crime from the past is unearthed, their worlds collide. Skye wants to help Noah, but she senses he can’t quite trust her. May even think she is a murderer. As the investigation progresses, the officer is alarmed when Skye becomes the target of dark forces.
Is she in more danger than she realizes? Against Noah’s better judgement, Skye refuses to leave.
Soon, new information comes to light and Noah begins to put it all together. But is it too late for Skye?
