Resumen del Editor

In Regency England, an advantageous match could set up a lady for life. Julia knows Matthew Blake, copper mine owner and very eligible bachelor, is the gentleman she should set her eyes upon. But why can’t she steal her gaze away from his younger brother, Isaac?

Cornwall, England, 1818

Julia Twethewey needs a diversion to mend her broken heart, so when her cousin invites her to Lanwyn Manor, Julia eagerly accepts. The manor is located at the heart of Cornwall’s mining industry, and as a guest, Julia is swept into its intricate world. It’s not long, though, before she realizes something dark lurks within the home’s ancient halls.

As a respected mine owner’s younger son, Isaac Blake is determined to keep his late father’s legacy alive through the family business, despite his brother’s careless attitude. In order to save their livelihood - and that of the people around them - the brothers approach the master of Lanwyn Manor with plans to bolster the floundering local industry. Isaac can’t deny his attraction to the man’s charming niece, but his brother has made clear his intentions to court the lovely visitor. And Isaac knows his place.

When tragedy strikes, mysteries arise, and valuables go missing, Julia and Isaac find they are pulled together in a swirl of strange circumstances, but despite their best efforts to bow to social expectations, their hearts aren’t so keen to surrender.

  • Sweet Regency romance
  • Full-length novel, approximately 90,000 words
  • Second in the Cornwall series, but can stand alone

Praise for The Thief of Lanwyn Manor

"Northanger Abbey meets Poldark against the resplendent and beautifully realized landscape of Cornwall." (Rachel McMillan, author of The London Restoration)

"Cornwall’s iconic sea cliffs are on display in The Thief of Lanwyn Manor, but it’s the lyrical prose, rich historical detail, and layered characters that truly shine. The story anchors the foray into Cornwall’s copper mining legacy with historical accuracy and brilliant heart. Fans of Regency romance will be instantly drawn in and happily lost within the pages - this is Sarah E. Ladd at her best!" (Kristy Cambron, best-selling author of the Lost Castle series)

Another captivating story by Sarah Ladd

Sarah Ladd is one of my favorite authors, and she does not disappoint with her strong characters and twisting plot. She held my attention from start to finish as always with this sweet, heartwarming love story.

Great read

I really enjoyed this story. I loved the suspense and the overcoming the struggle of expectation verses following your heard. The narrator also did a great job with each character.

Good book.

Clean and wholesome story. Good story and good narration. A nice second story in the series but this could be a stand alone book.

Overall a nice easy read

A little slow in the beginning, unlike her other books, but it did pick up and ended up being very enjoyable.

Foreshadowing

Enjoyable story and excellent reading performance. The foreshadowing guaranteed a happy ending for the main character, but there were a few twists with other characters. The aunt’s overbearing and ridiculous overreactions to situations added a bit of trial and fun.

Characters - ... mehhhh! Narrator - Worse!

I just finished listening to this audiobook, and it wasn't that good. I kept feeling like I wanted to shake some sense into the characters, especially the two main characters - Julia and Issac. The author, Sarah M. Eden, gave these characters no sense at all. They were always tongue tied, or afraid to speak their minds. I kept saying during the audiobook , " Just tell her!" (or him) They both kept letting other people rule their minds and feelings! It got very frustrating after a while. They had to be given advice from other characters in order to do the right thing! For example, in the beginning of the story when the female protagonist has a gun in her face, you find out later that the male protagonist didn't get between her and the gun in order to be brave and protect her, but instead he did it because the barkeep TOLD him to do it in order to create a diversion so that the barkeep could get his rifle without the villains seeing him! I didn't respect them because they acted very stupidly, and without any intelligence of their own! I don't think I'll read any more Sarah M. Eden books if she creates such terrible characters that make one unsympathetic with the protagonists! AND if Audible keeps making Jude Mason the narrator of her books - it's a double whammy.....I really do NOT like the narration of Jude Mason. She reads sentences or completely wrong! For example, Jude Mason will read a line of dialogue with a sharp, nasty voice, and then after the dialogue the author will have written "she said in a quiet voice." So this narrator does not read dialogue as is should be heard. Her voice is very grating. She made the aunt sound like Betty Davis - which was okay, but when she gave the same Betty Davis voice to a male solicitor in the story, it was just wrong! I am disappointed with both this author and the narrator.

Frustrating

I struggle with stories where the characters cannot think for themselves or with an excessive number of angst-filled moments of misunderstanding and refusal to speak up. I cannot tell how many times I actually said out loud, “Just say it!” Or “Just tell him/her!” It felt like the author was trying to drag out the drama unnecessarily at times. You could easily shave an hour off the book and still not miss anything crucial.

I very much enjoyed the first book of the series and was excited read this one but I had to drag myself through it. The performance was pretty good, though. Not the best I’ve heard but most definitely not the worst.
