The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. Not one of my favorites
I really enjoy the series but found this book hard to follow with so many different characters coming in and out. The narrator doesn't have the range that I have enjoyed when Cathleen McCarron has narrated. The distinguishing of characters and the storyline was muddied by a blending of voices; there was no real discernable difference between them.

My most favourite narrator, especially for crime drama
New to this author but now I’m hooked. Was hesitant b/c other reviews talked about violence against children being too brutal in this story. I made it through fine and would listen to this author’s work again. But the absolute clincher for me is James Macpherson-he is phenomenally talented in the nuances of his Scottish accents. Does a fair “Yankee” one as well. Bravo!
