Acerca de esta escucha
Jade went back to her seat and said, “We are not trying to be difficult, please. We just don’t want to keep on being victimized by the police. That’s all.”
“I understand this is hard for you, but I also need to remind you the only victim here is Stewart Parks,” I said.
They both sighed and nodded.
Henry returned and shook his head no. I slightly nodded at him.
Lucy turned to look at where Henry was but saw nothing; she then turned to look at me. It seemed to me she was starting to catch up on how the trick worked.
“Lucy?” I said, trying to get her back to the job at hand.
“Uh, sorry about that… The night of the murder. Did the attacker come from behind or did you cross paths with him, and he then turned around to attack Mr. Parks?”
They both seemed to think; they didn’t look at each other, which was a good sign.
“From behind,” Both of them said, almost at the same time.
“Did you see if he was wearing gloves?” Lucy asked.
“Gloves?! Hone-e-y-y! It was the middle of Summer! Do you know how hot it gets around here in those months? Why would anyone be wearing that, in the middle of Summer?” Debbie said, appalled.
Henry burst out laughing, very hard. He put his hands on his stomach and kept on laughing, almost hysterically.
“Debbie, darling. They mean ‘killer’s gloves’.” Jade said.
The look on Debbie’s face dramatically changed.
“Ohhhh... THOSE kind of gloves…”
Henry went down on his knees and kept on laughing hard.
He was almost crying.
“Well, did he?” I asked Debbie, losing my patience with Henry.
“I didn’t see…” Debbie said, mortified and embarrassed.
Henry tried to regain his composure only to say, “These old kooks probably didn’t stop the assault either, not to break a fake fingernail…” He started laughing uncontrollably again.
I turned to look at Jade and she said, “It all happened so fast. We didn’t even know what to do. I wanted to run away but I was wearing 12 inch platform shoes that night, honey!”
Henry had another wave of uncontrollable laughter; I could have sworn he was going to start rolling on the floor, any minute now.
