A Cliff's Notes Version of the Bible

The Bible is an intimidating book, how do you even begin to approach it? It was written over a 1,500 year by at least 40 different authors. The most recent of the books written almost 2,000 years ago, so obviously, cultural context can be a challenge. Sure, Genesis and Exodus are pretty exciting, but the names of the people and the places they're from sound closer to the world in Lord of the Rings than the one that we live in today. Once you get to Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy and learn about Who Begat Who and how many pigeons, goats and sheep had to be sacrificed for which indiscretion, it's pretty easy to lose focus.

Jonathan does masterful job in the way that he uses personal stories, modern history, and pop culture to give the context you need to understand the biblical narrative. The Bible is all ONE LONG story, an the main character doesn't even show up until 3/4 of the way through. The Story of God and Us is a road map through the Bible that will keep you on track and draws you back to the main story at every turn. This book is definitely worth your time whether you're a Bible scholar or someone just mildly interested in Christianity.
