Welcome to Marigold — a town with a crumbling square, a divided heart, and one last chance at redemption.

When architect Sophie Caldwell returns to Marigold to fulfill her late mother’s dream of restoring the historic town square, she hopes to heal old wounds — both the town’s and her own. But what she finds is a community at a crossroads: split between the promise of quick-fix progress from outside developers and the fragile hope of rebuilding from within.

As Sophie fights to honor the past while shaping a future, she crosses paths with Cal Bennett — a skilled local craftsman carrying his own scars. What begins as cautious respect slowly deepens into something neither expected. Together, they face whispered doubts, fierce resistance, and the lure of easy solutions that could erase everything Marigold once was.

The Squaring of a Heart is a tender, uplifting novel of love, second chances, and the small town that refused to give up. With richly drawn characters, emotional depth, and a setting that feels as real as your own hometown, Cameron Lane delivers a story about what it means to belong — and how the hardest battles often lead to the most lasting triumphs.

This story tugs at the heartstrings of the audience by vividly describing hardship, emotion, and small-town community struggles.

I loved the creative adjectives and metaphors used throughout the story. It has a linear storyline that is easy to follow, and the voice acting was very well done. I found myself really able to visualize the town of Marigold and empathizing with the struggles of the characters.

My biggest complaint was the repititiveness of internal thoughts or spoken phrases, especially in the 2nd half of the book. Even with the necessary build to capture the audience, I felt as if the book could've been a lot shorter, or proofread/reworded in a number of spots. It doesn't take away from the fact that this was a great story, but at times I was almost getting annoyed with hearing phrases like, "and for the first time..."

Overall, I very much enjoyed this audiobook. I finished it in less than a week because it kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting to hear what the next verdict would be.

Heartfelt wholesome story with vivid visualization
