The Space Race tells the captivating story of one of the most defining periods in human history—a battle for supremacy between the United States and the Soviet Union that extended far beyond Earth’s atmosphere. From the dawn of the Cold War, when both superpowers vied for technological dominance, to the incredible achievements that followed, this book takes readers on a journey through the milestones that shaped space exploration.
Discover the awe-inspiring tales of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1, the courageous flights of Vostok and Mercury, the Moon landings, and the space stations that followed. Each chapter brings to life the extraordinary moments that propelled humanity beyond the confines of Earth, including the intense competition, the scientific breakthroughs, and the collaborative efforts that would later define space exploration.
The Space Race explores the triumphs, challenges, and tragedies of an era that forever changed our world through detailed, factual descriptions. This book is not just about the rivalry between two superpowers but the collective ambition of mankind to reach for the stars. As we look toward the future—with private companies, international partnerships, and renewed missions to the Moon and Mars—the legacy of the Space Race remains as relevant as ever.

The book details warned of a "virtual voice". Fair enough. A pleasant female voice without much inflection. Not exactly monotone, but close. Biggest issue is that AI is just a little short of being ready for prime time. Constant small reminders that it's not a person reading. One example: when an astronaut experiences 3 times the force of gravity or "3Gs", instead of saying "3 gees", it reads "3 grams". Or, in several places NASA is pronounced "Ney-sa" with a long a sound. These are just a couple of the ones I remember, but they happen throughout. Not enough to toss it out; it eventually becomes somewhat humorous.

Probably a bigger issue is that it's 7 hours of content crammed into 14 hours. EVERY SINGLE FACT and/or EVENT is repeated at least once. I don't know if this was written by an improperly coded AI or two separate humans that did not talk to each other, with each writing their own paragraphs to be put together by an incompetent editor.

Good recap of the major aspects of the space race, but hard to listen to.
