Resumen del Editor

Not your everyday coming-of-age novel. This story was supposed to be about Evie - how she hasn't made a friend in years, how she tends to stretch the truth (especially about her so-called relationship with college drop-out Jonah Luks), and how she finally comes into her own once she learns to just be herself. But it isn't. Because when her classmate Elizabeth "Zabet" McCabe's murdered body is found in the woods, everything changes and Evie's life is never the same again.

Gripping

What did you love best about The Space Between Trees?

The story, wonderfully told by Emily Eiden, captures and acts out teenage angst in a realistic (and shocking) way which makes it relatable and interesting.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jonah Lukes - he was just a guy going about his business. He was a steady force in the plot that gave the story its foundation.

What does Emily Eiden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Emily's voice is a natural for the main character Evie, she read the part with ease. Emily is also skilled at bringing out the different characters in the story. You can hear the sarcasm, glee and rage in Hadley's altering moods. You can feel the sorrow of 'Zibette's father's loss. Emily clearly captured Evie's mother's narcissism. I gasped in horror at the yowl when Jonah got hurt.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Sometimes bad things happen to good people.

A Misfit with a Mystery on Her Hands

Ahhh... A story many teenagers could relate to: A 16-year old misfit, with no real friends, and a huge crush on a boy who barely acknowledges her presence.

Except! — this story begins with a paper route in the middle of nowhere... and a murder.

The "bad girl" that our lonely heroine befriends—of course, it has to be the bad girl!— is a great character. (I was rooting for them to hook up, instead of her and the boy).

"The Space Between Trees" is simply beautiful writing; author Katie Williams is a standout.

The remoteness of the location puts you in the forest, far away from everything. The title is a perfect fit.

Emily Eiden is a wonderful YA narrator. I'm so happy she read this book.

Interesting

An interesting listen. I liked the narrator but had trouble feeling the emotion from her sometimes, but I still think she was decent. The story is also pretty good and I think would be a good listen for teenagers. Definitely the kind of book that encompasses dark/thriller kind of books. There were some places I thought the book could dive deeper into and was left feeling a bit wanting, but I still enjoyed the listen. Story: 3/5 , Narrator: 2/5

Not what it says on the tin

A slow-burn of a mystery that fizzled into nothing for me. Beautifully performed, but ultimately a story with a cast of secondary characters that goes nowhere. If you’d like a rollicking good story about “secondary” characters, check out Patrick Ness’ book The Rest Of Us Just Live Here.
