It is the winter solstice of 1846. Fafnir the dwarf's monstrous creation, the Great Clock, has begun to tick. With every turn of its thousands of gears beneath the earth, the world is slowly changing, but not for the better - at least not for Mankind.

There she is given a quest - to somehow carry hope down to the land of the Giants. But she finds that she has been given an impossible task, for that world is being consumed by the Great Worm, and she cannot stop it.
At last Frederick and Colleen meet in that dying land, and there must find a way to save the last of its people.
