Resumen del Editor

From the bestselling author of The Woman on the Orient Express comes a haunting novel of two women - one determined to uncover the past and the other determined to escape it.

At the close of World War II, London is in ruins and Rose Daniel isn’t at peace. Eight years ago, her brother disappeared while fighting alongside Gypsy partisans in Spain. From his letters, Rose has just two clues to his whereabouts - his descriptions of the spectacular south slopes of the Sierra Nevada and his love for a woman who was carrying his child.

In Spain, it has been eight years since Lola Aragon’s family was massacred. Eight years since she rescued a newborn girl from the arms of her dying mother and ran for her life. She has always believed that nothing could make her return…until a plea for help comes from a desperate stranger.

Now, Rose, Lola, and the child set out on a journey from the wild marshes of the Camargue to the dazzling peaks of Spain’s ancient mountain communities. As they come face-to-face with war’s darkest truths, their lives will be changed forever by memories, secrets, and friendships.

Reseñas de la Crítica

The Snow Gypsy is a jewel of a book with layers of light and depth. Through eloquent language, intriguing characters, and lavish historical detail, Lindsay Jayne Ashford brings to life two extraordinary women in post-World War II Europe and shows that although grief never completely fades, love and hope can still take us onward.” (Ann Howard Creel, best-selling author of The Whiskey Sea)

Sing song reading.

The person reading this book did it in a strange cadence that made it hard to keep up with the story.

A positive outlook on Gypsies

I admit to having my idea of gypsies ruined 4 years ago during a bad experience with a few on a trip to France . . . But I've always liked the idea of Gypsies. Felt a kinship with them because they're treated so terribly - being a woman of color I get that. But they've definitely always been of interest to me. However, this story was awesome. I really liked being able to 1. have a positive outlook on them and 2. Having an intimate look into their past life.

I was able to feel and hurt for both Rose and Lola. Understand both of their need to protect Nieve. Rose's incredible hurt after Zoltan - although I kinda sympathize with him (call me a romantic but I hoped they'd end up together 🤷🏾‍♀️). All in all a great story.

Great story, ok narration

I really enjoyed this book. While the narrator was not bad I wish she had made some effort to distinguish between the two main female characters. She uses the same voice when either Lola or Rose are speaking, Rose is British and Lola is a gypsy it shouldn't have been hard to tell who was speaking and when, but many times her voice would revert back to a normal tone even though one of the characters was talking. Many times I had to rewind to figure out who was talking.

Excellent story, narration stilted

The story was very good but I struggled with the cadence of the narrator's voice. Every sentence had the same inflections and frequently she did not stop at the end of a paragraph so the ideas ran together strangely. It was odd and took away from the atmosphere of the story.

Frustrating

I loved the first 5 minutes after that I was so lost and couldn’t keep up with the narration... I just got lost and had no idea what was going on. I did s not like the narration at all. Woomp I was intrigued but After 30 minutes I couldn’t keep listening .

narration

This story was good, but could have been a whole lot better read by someone else. She read each line as tho it was a grocery list. It made it nerve racking to get thru.

Great story. Poor reader

This was a good story, well written and suspenseful. The characters were intriguing and interesting. The reader was just awful. She read in jerky, sing-song phrases, Often pausing in the middle of sentences. Ill remember her name and never buy a book she narrates again

.

Narrator style got on my nerves. To sing songs, with predictable inflection. Her style was a distraction.
