Acerca de esta escucha

From the bestselling author of The Woman on the Orient Express comes a haunting novel of two women - one determined to uncover the past and the other determined to escape it.

At the close of World War II, London is in ruins and Rose Daniel isn’t at peace. Eight years ago, her brother disappeared while fighting alongside Gypsy partisans in Spain. From his letters, Rose has just two clues to his whereabouts - his descriptions of the spectacular south slopes of the Sierra Nevada and his love for a woman who was carrying his child.

In Spain, it has been eight years since Lola Aragon’s family was massacred. Eight years since she rescued a newborn girl from the arms of her dying mother and ran for her life. She has always believed that nothing could make her return…until a plea for help comes from a desperate stranger.

Now, Rose, Lola, and the child set out on a journey from the wild marshes of the Camargue to the dazzling peaks of Spain’s ancient mountain communities. As they come face-to-face with war’s darkest truths, their lives will be changed forever by memories, secrets, and friendships.

Reseñas de la Crítica

The Snow Gypsy is a jewel of a book with layers of light and depth. Through eloquent language, intriguing characters, and lavish historical detail, Lindsay Jayne Ashford brings to life two extraordinary women in post-World War II Europe and shows that although grief never completely fades, love and hope can still take us onward.” (Ann Howard Creel, best-selling author of The Whiskey Sea)

The story was very good but I struggled with the cadence of the narrator's voice. Every sentence had the same inflections and frequently she did not stop at the end of a paragraph so the ideas ran together strangely. It was odd and took away from the atmosphere of the story.

Excellent story, narration stilted

I loved the first 5 minutes after that I was so lost and couldn’t keep up with the narration... I just got lost and had no idea what was going on. I did s not like the narration at all. Woomp I was intrigued but After 30 minutes I couldn’t keep listening .

Frustrating

This story was good, but could have been a whole lot better read by someone else. She read each line as tho it was a grocery list. It made it nerve racking to get thru.

This was a good story, well written and suspenseful. The characters were intriguing and interesting. The reader was just awful. She read in jerky, sing-song phrases, Often pausing in the middle of sentences. Ill remember her name and never buy a book she narrates again

Great story. Poor reader

Narrator style got on my nerves. To sing songs, with predictable inflection. Her style was a distraction.

A good story with hidden pockets of history. I had a love/hate relationship with the narrator but over found the book interesting

Surprised at many turns in the story

Loved it even though it tended to drag in the middle. Several narrative errors mainly word transposing. Only the second novel I've read or listed to related to the Spanish Civil War but extremely well researched and great for amateur history buffs trying to hunt out forgotten history.

Good Read with narration errors

I’m giving this book five stars. Ms. Ashford did her research well and wrote a warm, loving book about difficult times for the characters.
You can’t put the book down for long. I’m amazed where the book ended up and at all the interesting twists and turns that happen when Rose travels to find out what happened to her brother during the war.
The characters were very interesting and many descriptions of the surroundings were so vivid. The book itself was like a little trip during my read.

Unique Story
