The Skipper Goes West is the second book in The Skipper Series.
A top secret component has been stolen from a British mission to the United States. Captain Horace McDonald, of the Secret Intelligence Service, is tasked with recovering the stolen item. His main problem is that the operation must take place in the United States, still a neutral power in 1940. He knows he will need help, and the ability to recover the item if the Nazi network get it out of America means he needs the Skipper, his trusted ally. The Skipper's first task is to ferry replacement items over the North Atlantic, which means travelling in a convoy, evading Admiral Doenitz' u-boats, and dealing with their newly invented 'wolfpack' tactics.
What follows is a high-stakes chase from Nova Scotia down to New York. The Nazi network seems impenetrable, yet with the help of their FBI liaison, Eli Bernstein, they set about finding the proverbial needle in over three million square miles of haystack! Can they prevent their opponents from getting Britain's secret back to the SS' intelligence agency, the Sicherheitsdienst?
Fans of Douglas Reeman are likely to enjoy this book.
Comments from readers of Book One in the series, 'The Skipper Goes to War'
An excellent book that gives a very honest account of the early days of World War 2 and the Royal Naval Patrol Service which is very often overlooked...
Excellent read, well researched. A credit to the author for bringing a little known and important history to life in such an enjoyable read.
A really enjoyable book about a little known arm of the Royal Navy in WW2. My late father served in the RNPS so it’s nice to be able to read a good story, albeit fictional, about those who served. Look forward to the other books in the series.
Really enjoyed the whole story, well constructed with solid characters. Storylines moved smoothly with enough tension to keep you reading. I would recommend it anyone who likes an easy but enjoyable seafaring yarn. Well done!
The character's were excellently described and very believable. The story was exceptional, I could not put the book down and read it all in two evenings. In my view it is exceptional. Well done Mark Tissington.
I have been a fan of Douglas Reeman for many years and Mr Tissington has produced a book and hopefully a series in the same league as that of the late Mr Reeman. I am looking forward to book 2.
