Reseñas editoriales

A young Ute - the indigenous Native American people of the Great Basin - and a highway patrolman are slaughtered in the most disturbing of ways. And the unknown killer is still on the loose in the expansive American West.

Capturing whoever committed these two horrible murders - and possibly many others - will take an equal mixture of traditional police detective work as well as relying on the magic of shamans, psychics, and restless Native American spirits.

The Shaman’s Bones, leisurely narrated like a wise mother by Romy Nordlinger, is a transfixing and unorthodox crime audiobook that should appeal to both hard-boiled fiction fans and appreciators of black art myths.

Resumen del Editor

A women of the Tohono O'otam tribe has been savagely - and ritually - murdered in Wyoming, outside the jurisdictions of Granite Creek, Colorado, Police Chief Scott Parris and Ute tribal policeman Charlie Moon. But a brutal, unprovoked assault by the suspected killer on one of Parris's detectives - and the dark, unsettling visions of Charlie's shaman aunt, Daisy Perika - are pulling two dedicated lawmen and an aging Native American mystic into the hunt.

Daisy's dreams of raining blood tell her that more will die. Despite the healthy skepticism of his good friend Moon, Parris is inclined to heed the shaman's dire warnings. But the trail of a murderer is leading them all to perilous and unexpected places, where secrets of past betrayals and treacherous tribal politics are buried, and where the pursuit of a stolen Power has turned some men greedy and hungry... and deadly.

fun story. Could barely stand the narrator.

Good mystery. Interesting setting and characters. All almost ruined by a weird narration. So many mispronunciations.

Riveting story, characters, great narration

Really pulls you in to a riveting story and a world that’s rich culturally, populated by characters you care for. I’m a big Tony Hillerman fan and also James Welch, and was really into this book.

The narrator went deep into the characters and I felt close to the sensitivity of their situations because of her delivery.

A great, intriguing suspense story, well told!

Charlie Moon Books are great!

I was excited about seeing this series on Audible. I've read the books and was thrilled to revisit them on Audible. At first, Romy Nordinger really grated on my nerves. She does not pronounce the native words like yucca (EWE-cah vs. YUCK-KAH) correctly and the folksy western drawl Daisy speaks in makes me giggle but getting past that, she does a pretty good job. She does make it easy to keep up with who is speaking. I would like more please.

enjoyed the story

If you can get past the poor pronunciation and lack of expression of the reader, the story is very interesting. Typical Charlie Moon mystery.

Wonderful storyline

Funny in spots, charming in all ways except the few times the narrator mispronounced words like “yucca” and “carotid”. Good reader otherwise.

If you love the book give this a pass

The terrible choice of narrator makes a wonderful book into torture. I could not stand it for more than ten minutes. She should at least learn to pronounce yucca and posole. I was pleased to see this series in audio form, but will be sticking to the written version.

Wanted a new series to like

I hoped that this might be almost as good as Tony Hillerman -- alas. The text needed an editor, and the reader's voice is just too sweet; I half-expected her to break into baby talk. Also, she at one point says "CAR-toid" instead of "ca-ROT-id." How can you read a mystery and not know the carotid artery?! Really disappointed.
