Resumen del Editor

Bhima, the unforgettable main character of Thrity Umrigar’s beloved national best seller, The Space Between Us, returns in this triumphant sequel - a poignant and compelling novel in which the former servant struggles against the circumstances of class and misfortune to forge a new path for herself and her granddaughter in modern India.

Poor and illiterate, Bhima had faithfully worked for the Dubash family, an upper-middle-class Parsi household, for more than 20 years. Yet after courageously speaking the truth about a heinous crime perpetrated against her own family, the devoted servant was cruelly fired. The sting of that dismissal was made more painful coming from Sera Dubash, the temperamental employer who had long been Bhima’s only confidante. A woman who has endured despair and loss with stoicism, Bhima must now find some other way to support herself and her granddaughter, Maya.

Bhima’s fortunes take an unexpected turn when her path intersects with Parvati, a bitter, taciturn older woman. The two acquaintances soon form a tentative business partnership, selling fruits and vegetables at the local market. As they work together, these two women seemingly bound by fate grow closer, each confessing the truth about their lives and the wounds that haunt them. Discovering her first true friend, Bhima pieces together a new life, and together, the two women learn to stand on their own.

A dazzling story of gender, strength, friendship, and second chances, The Secrets Between Us is a powerful and perceptive novel that brilliantly evokes the complexities of life in modern India and the harsh realities faced by women born without privilege as they struggle to survive.

Amazing...

This book was amazing!
This should be an international classic.
So few books tell the story of the little people, the downtrodden, the poorest of the poor.
This book does it whith style, warmth & dignity.

Beautiful storytelling

Brilliantly written and read. This is one of those stories you never forget because, by the end, you are so in awe of and emotionally attached to these two women that you feel that they are your own aunties. Probably my new favorite book.

Wonderful book! Wonderful narration!

I am so glad I listened to this book rather than reading. The narrator portrays characters so wonderfully and her accent helps to set the reader in the book’s context. The story is wonderful and has so much to teach. I’d been watching for another book by Thrity Umrigar and this book did not disappoint.

A Must Listen To!

Typically, I don’t give 5 stars for an audiobook... It has to be amazing for me to rate anything that high... However, when it came to this story and narration, I couldn’t help but say that both the actual story and performance were worth it!!! I loved how the story unfolded, with a balance of heart-warming parts and sad parts, along with humorous parts to lighten it all... I laughed and cried, and set aside more time than usual to finish it... In fact, I stayed up til 3 A.M. last night to hear how it ended. As for the narration, Sneha Mathan is the best of the best!!! She brings all of her characters to life, so that you the listener really feel as if you’re passively involved in their world. You’ll definitely want to check out this story and Ms. Mathan’s performance, and thank me later.🙂👍🏼 ENJOY!

Story of heartache and tenderness

I think it is helpful to read The Space Between Us first for background, but The Secrets Between Us is the real gem. It takes us from despair and slowly climbs to friendship and family and hope. Beautifully narrated
