“Will The Sun Rise or Set On Humanity?” is Book 1 of the Second Human Extinction Event series. It follows the adventures of Marshal John Smith as he protects the last surviving humans after a fast-spreading viral pandemic.

The COVID-24 virus has killed most of the people on Earth. Only those who were living remotely have survived. Max Everitt, a retired engineer, was one of the survivors. At 78 years of age, he lives in his remote cabin, waiting for the virus to find him. One day, while hiking through the forest, he encounters an older man in distress. As Max helps him to recover, the man states that he is an alien sent to Earth to save humanity from extinction and needs Max’s help. Max suppresses his laughter, figures the man is suffering from sunstroke, and informs him gently that he is too old to save humanity. The alien solves that problem by putting Max’s 78-year-old mind into an 18-year-old body and telling him he is now John Smith, the Marshal of the Valley. John's job is to protect the surviving humans who have migrated into the valley. However, the alien didn’t reveal the whole truth to John about his new body. The truth is that John is humanity's only hope for survival from this Second Human Extinction Event.
