For Étienne, the Archive's most gifted Restorer, this vow is a death sentence. When he uncovers what he believes is a kill-switch that could undo the Bloom , he defies his order and casts himself into the wilds on a desperate quest for the cradle of the apocalypse. To survive, he must earn the trust of Geneviève, a hardened survivalist who has renounced the very technology he believes can save them.

Hunted by ruthless slavers and a zealous cult that worships the machine god, Étienne and Geneviève follow a trail of broken data to the heart of the disaster.
