Resumen del Editor

Friday, May 29, 1953.

Nick and Carter just want to go home to San Francisco after their adventures in Mexico.
But before they can sail into the Golden Gate, Nick receives a subpoena from America's most infamous witch hunter in Washington, DC.

Meanwhile, an old schoolmate from Carter's childhood shows up out of nowhere and revives painful memories.

Once they get to the nation's capitol, they are plunged into helping yet another flirtatious police detective solve a curious murder that leads to some very dark places.

In the end, Nick and Carter set a trap to catch the killer and get much more than they bargained for.

I LOVE this series!

Nick and Carter are the kind of characters you simply have to love. They are always helping those unjustly treated because their sexual orientation, and they are in love, and they present each other as husbands and... really! I love it.

This book follows immediately after The Amorous Attorney, and while investigating the murder of a Senator's son they find themselves immersed in the BDSM scene, and... well, you'll have to read/listen the book to know how they manage that :P

I love Marnie's mother, I love the whole cast of characters to be honest; I love the historical details, Senator McCarthy and a young Robert Kennedy; Bette Davies and Veronica Lake; I particularly love Nick's feud with Hearts and his papers.

So, yes, sue me! I am in love! I regret nothing :P

A Talent for Characterization

How does he do it? Each character, no matter how large a part they play in the story, whether they're even ALIVE in the story, are all so real! There is a murder in the book which Nick and Carter are investigating. The way FB wrote it, I truly grieved for the victim, though we never actually met him in the story. Love this book and Brian Rollins truly brings it to life. I look forward, very much, to the next installment.

Still Meeting the charachters

I have read all of the Nick & Carter books, and now the other books in the Nick & Carter universe. This entry introduces a few new characters that will play a big role in their lives going forward. And while I love these books, this was one of my least favorites for some reason. I think it had to do with how the main reason for their travel is just summarily cancelled. Lots of work for nothing, except the bringing on a few new characters. One thing I like about these books is that the characters are flawed. Not their gayness, but their humanity is flawed. They don't always to the right thing, but there is love and forgiveness.

I love this narrator!

This is the third Nick & Carter book I’ve
listened to and I’m impatiently waiting for the next. I like to read the books and listen as a reread before I begin the next in the series.
Brian Rollins’s narrative voices comfort me. Each character is distinct. I think he’s perfect for this series. Please keep them coming!

Another great story!

I absolutely love this series! It's a wonderful mix of mystery, humor, and hijinx. The characters are wonderful. Nick and Carter present a fantastic picture of love and commitment. They may flirt, sometimes shamelessly, with men and women, but it goes no further, and they remain devoted to each other. They are also both dedicated to helping those less fortunate than themselves, especially those wronged because of their sexual orientation. Nick is a generous person. I love his free and careless approach to the fortune left to him by his uncle, and the way he uses it to help friend and stranger alike. While this instalment of the series has a lot of the same lightness and humor evident in the first two books, this one also takes a more serious and personal turn as one of their friends decides to present a fake, non homosexual, persona to further his business and wealth. The author's obvious knowledge and research of the era is evident in his stories, and it is eye-opening to read/listen to the challenges and perils of being gay in the '50's. I love Nick's feud with the Hearsts. He is a one-man pride parade.

Brian Rollins narration is fantastic, and really adds to the enjoyment of listening to the story. His delivery perfectly suits the characters, emotions, and circumstances of the story. He definitely hits the nail on the head when it comes to the quirkier characters and the humorous parts of the story.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
