While in Vatican City, renowned photorealist Anthony Brunelli is summoned from an art reception honoring his latest masterpiece to an unexpected private audience with Pope Benedict XVI. There, he receives a shocking request: uncover an 800-year-old secret left by Saint Francis of Assisi—a revelation with the power to reshape the very foundations of Christianity.

Brunelli has always known of his family's ancient duty to protect a sacred truth, but never imagined he would be the one chosen to unveil it—let alone at the Pope's command.

Joined by gifted art historian Dr. Vera Valentino, Brunelli follows a trail of hidden clues ingeniously encoded within Renaissance masterpieces. Their investigation uncovers a chilling revelation about Pontius Pilate's secret testament regarding the Virgin Mary—a truth so explosive it threatens to overturn centuries of religious doctrine.

As shadowy forces within the Vatican close in, determined to keep these secrets buried, Brunelli must confront his own wavering faith, ensure his safety, and solve the mysterious disappearance of his father—all while racing to unlock a mystery hidden in plain sight for centuries.

The Sacred Order is an electrifying journey through Renaissance art, ancient beliefs, and dangerous betrayals—where the line between faith and heresy may be drawn in blood.

I really enjoyed The Sacred Order. The mix of history and storytelling made it both entertaining and eye-opening. The narration was excellent and it was great having music as a background for some plots. I loved how the characters felt real, and I learned so much more about Francis of Assisi without it ever feeling like a textbook. Highly recommend if you like historical fiction that teaches you something along the way!

Compelling historical storytelling!

A modern mystery thriller with fascinating history lessons slipped into every few chapters seamlessly! What a brilliant way to learn about St. Francis - his dedication to loving simply and with compassion for those less fortunate - his appreciation for the natural world -and love of all living things. He focused on helping others rather than accumulating wealth or power for himself. His life was an inspiration during his time and for all time - he spread the most important essence of all religions - love - by living his life as an example. He inspired the church to reform during his time and he continues to be an inspiration for those trying to help the church be healthier and more effective today at helping people find love and a meaning and purpose for our time here on earth. The reader is very very good, the music is great, and the fast pace of the mystery unfolding keeps you reading/listening to follow the modern story and St. Francis’s story all the way through to a satisfying and encouraging ending!

Roger Brooks’ Sacred Order is a brilliant, thought-provoking work that confronts the spiritual and cultural crises of our time with both intellectual rigor and moral clarity. With the precision of a scholar and the passion of a believer in human dignity, Brooks examines how sacred structure—once the backbone of civilization—has eroded in an age of hyper-individualism and ideological fragmentation.

This book is not merely a critique of secular modernity; it’s a compelling call to rediscover the foundational principles that give life coherence, community, and purpose. Brooks draws from theology, philosophy, and cultural history, weaving them together into a narrative that feels both urgent and deeply rooted in wisdom. His prose is lucid and elegant, and his arguments are accessible without oversimplifying the depth of the issues at hand. Whether you’re a seeker, a skeptic, or someone trying to make sense of the modern moral landscape, Sacred Order offers insight, challenge, and, ultimately, hope. In a time when many feel adrift, Roger Brooks offers not just diagnosis—but direction. A must-read.

An excellent read from a first time author!
