But Ley has her own plans, involving her ex-girlfriend, a daring heist into the god-haunted desert, and, perhaps, freedom for an occupied city. Because Alikand might not be completely dead - and some people want to finish the job.

Not a great narrator

The story itself is a delight, as are all of Max Gladstone's

However, the narrator pronounces words as they are spelled. This includes words like "chasm" and "demesne". I gave up before the end of the fourth chapter and just read the book in text instead

don't whisper

I enjoy this series and the voice performer has an excellent specificity in voice characterizations.... but I was very frustrated trying to hear large portions of narrative when the performer chose low volume whispering as a dramatic effect. I shouldn't need additional speakers to hear and this is not meant to lull me into sleep. sing out, louise!
