In this landmark work, one of the world's most renowned Egyptologists tells the epic story of this great civilization, from its birth as the first nation-state to its final absorption into the Roman Empire - 3,000 years of wild drama, bold spectacle, and unforgettable characters.

Award-winning scholar Toby Wilkinson captures not only the lavish pomp and artistic grandeur of this land of pyramids and pharaohs but for the first time reveals the constant propaganda and repression that were its foundations. Drawing upon 40 years of archaeological research, Wilkinson takes us inside an exotic tribal society with a pre-monetary economy and decadent, divine kings who ruled with all-too-recognizable human emotions.

Riveting and revelatory, filled with new information and unique interpretations, The Rise and Fall of Ancient Egypt will become the standard source about this great civilization, one that lasted - so far - longer than any other.

A comprehensive study of Egyptian history, almost textbookish in style. After listening, I would recommend a kindle or book format. The complexity of the names and places would have been easier to distinguish visually.

It's obvious that Wilkinson is one of the world's foremost Egyptologists - this is a great book that is accessible to the novice but still a great resource to those already familiar with Pharonic Egypt. This is a strong recommend from me if you have any interest in the subject.

An excellent narrative history of Ancient Egypt

Likely due to the source material, the history is lighter on political, economic, and social history and heavier on listing events. Little analysis as to why, and more a compendium of a very narrow version of ‘what’.

Largely a history of ‘great leaders’

I have been reading books about Ancient Egypt my whole life and this audible book was one of the best...it covers the whole length of its history and gave me new insights! I highly recommend it!

Wanted to learn about the history of Ancient Egypt and Michael Page narrating meant I had to pick this book. I highly recommend his Narration of Alexander the Great as well.

this book really helped put what little I knew about Egyptian history into perspective and gave it a clear chronology and overview of the culture and motivations which drove the history of the civilization.

Absolutely loved it.

Very good sketch of a vast history. But almost too much to be able to take in

Vast history covered

at first getting into this book was a little slow but oh am I glad that I did. I absolutely love the history of our world. I could only hope to think and wish that everyone can listen to these type of books and in this case those who live in Egypt.

Rich history

We are so lucky to benefit from the enormous effort historians and archaeologists have invested in the memorialization of 5,000+ years of Egyptian history told so masterfully by this author. The narration is excellent.

Highly Recommend
