I live with the aid of deafness. Like poetry, it has given me an art, a history, a culture and a tradition to live through. This book charts that art in the hopes of offering a map, a mirror, a small part of a larger story.

Probably the most interesting d/Deaf memoir...

...I've read, and I seem to have read about 4 others as well as a novel. I'm not sure why I liked this one the most--maybe because it's his experience in the UK? Being bi-racial? Not being profoundly deaf and being able to hide it somewhat? Because he's a poet? Because it's a male POV? Not sure. But well worth the listen. I enjoyed the poetry in the book as well as some of the UK history of d/Deaf culture, education, etc.
