“Work is love made visible.” (Khalil Gibran)

Filled with wisdom, written in simple, poetic language, The Prophet is a book for all ages, which remains amazingly relevant to our times. This audiobook, narrated by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, contains two full versions of The Prophet: Part One, with music by Stefan Frankenberger. Part Two, with our voices only.

After living in the city of Orphalese for 12 years, a prophet is about to board a ship which will carry him home. He is stopped by a seeress and the people of the city, who ask him for his insights into life.

The book is divided into chapters dealing with love, marriage, children, giving, eating and drinking, work, joy and sorrow, houses, clothes, buying and selling, crime and punishment, laws, freedom, reason and passion, pain, self-knowledge, teaching, friendship, talking, time, good and evil, prayer, pleasure, beauty, religion, and death.

The Prophet is a book of prose poetry written by Khalil Gibran. Originally published in 1923, it is now in the public domain. The Prophet has been translated into over 100 different languages, making it one of the most translated books in history, and it has never been out of print.

Reseñas de la Crítica

Listening to this masterful narration by Kate Reading and Michael Kramer is a solid choice for those wanting to enjoy Lebanese-American poet Kahlil Gibran's prose. The narrators share his wisdom for the ages in beautifully read phrases. Exhortations on marriage, justice, family, and politics are delivered as memorable aphorisms. In a deep baritone, Kramer takes on the words of the prophet from whom people ask advice. His authoritative and confident performance is balanced by Kate Reading's tender delivery of the chapters she reads. Listeners are folded into her firm yet loving maternal embrace. The production has two options for listening: one with musical interludes and one without. M.R. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2020]

Everything that comes across Michael Kramer and Kate Redding's lips is gold. It is hard to express the pure enjoyment that I get out of just hearing their voices. I will probably listen to this book many times. Given the power of this text, hopefully each time I will learn something new.

Gold standard

I found the music to be annoying. This story would have better if kept simple.

Music

The narration and music are superb. I personally preferred the version with music (part 1). The music was well performed and added to my experience by acting as short interludes between sections, giving me time to process the previous lesson. I'll be coming back to this recording many times.

Also, Dalinar as the prophet? How perfect is that?

Brilliant production. Lots of replay value.

Back in the early 1970's as a teen I was part of the Jesus Freak movement. Within a couple years I felt pretty disillusioned, yet lost. I was missing something in my life. In my early 20's I read The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran and it was one of those life-changing books. I found my spirituality. I've read the book several times through out the following decades. Kate Reading and Michael Kramer are two of my favorite narrators. Over the past several months I have developed severe insomnia, and search out audible books that are soothing and comforting. I had tears in my eyes in the first 15 minutes as their voices brought to life this old favorite of mine. Highly recommend.

Great narration of a great book
