How can anyone live under a set of rules invented by a Pope and a Saint from almost a thousand years ago?
The Poor Knights of the Order of the Red Cross of Gold have labored for ages unseen, unappreciated, and under the Primitive Rule of Order set down by Pope Honorius and Saint Bernard of Clairvaux in January of 1128 CE. The Primitive Rule is overdue for a few updates and revisions.
The Chevalier Ramsay is proposing the Knights of the Council be allowed to marry. He believes the Knights have suffered under the ancient Rule of Order long enough. For seven years Ramsay has petitioned the Council for a vote on his proposal and has been denied the right to have his petition read in Council.
The Grand Master believes his determination will fade with time, but Ramsay’s love for the woman he left behind has grown with the passing of the years. At last, the GM relents. He is confident the proposal will die in Council when the Knights vote on it. But Ramsay’s friend and Brother, the Knight of the Golden Eagle speaks on the merits of Ramsay’s proposal and shames some of his Brothers into voting for the rule change. But not all are shamed; some are angered beyond reason.
The outcome of the vote angers a number of the Brothers who are against the idea of changing the Primitive Rule. And yet the Primitive Rule forbids one Knight from provoking another to anger. One of the Knights starts plotting against Ramsay and the Golden Eagle immediately.
Meanwhile, certain members of the Order of the Rose are still interested in stealing the mystery of the Tree of Life from the Order of the Red Cross of Gold. They will stop at nothing including murder to gain immortality.
Going back to Texas proves to be the start of an incredible series of events none of them could have ever predicted. Ulterior motives, misinformation, greed, jealousy, and miscommunication work against them. Alchemy, angels, and magic produce unexpected outcomes for everyone concerned.
