Resumen del Editor

After setting out to break the curse that binds them together, the pirate Ananna and the assassin Naji find themselves stranded on an enchanted island in the north with nothing but a sword, their wits, and the secret to breaking the curse: complete three impossible tasks.

With the help of their friend Marjani and a rather unusual ally, Ananna and Naji make their way south again, seeking what seems to be beyond their reach. Unfortunately, Naji has enemies from the shadowy world known as the Mists, and Ananna must still face the repercussions of going up against the Pirate Confederation.

Together, Naji and Ananna must break the curse, escape their enemies - and come to terms with their growing romantic attraction.

Impressive and enjoyable for YA and beyond

I reviewed this and the first in this series for my teenage kids. I have to admit that there are a few times the Heroine swears like a pirate which was a shock at first, but in context is more understandable. I would still allow my children to read it and reiterate the importance caution if they ever decide to use such language. It is a good story and yet reserved enough for the younger generations. I would enjoy sharing this story with others.

Took a disappointing turn

I loved the first volume, and enjoyed the first 80% of this one, but then it was like Clarke got tired of the curse storyline, and just called it in on the last impossible task. My main problem is that nothing about it makes sense. Here is where I go into spoilers.

If the ocean battle created an underwater civilization, then that impossible task was actually complete before the task with the stones. so when Naji woke up after the stones and realized he had weakened the curse, he really should have noticed that the curse was completely gone. It doesn't make much sense that the task doesn't count as done until he's aware of it. Also, if the underwater city just popped into being a couple months ago, it doesn't make sense that they have a well-developed social system, so much so that they have lots of artists already. The whole thing exceeded my ability to suspend my disbelief.

And that's disappointing because the love story was sweet, and the challenges in the first part of the book were well done. Makes me think Clarke went on vacation, and the publisher hired someone off the streets who's never written before to finish things up.

A fantasy tail with a lot of love ridden angst

I absolutely loved the first in this series, the second is good, but not great. The plot itself was grand, but the downfall for me was with Ananna's character depth. When it came down to it, she really wasn't a likeable character. Very selfish and flighty, things I don't like. There were things that happened in this book that seemed a bit out of character for her, compared to her character in book one. The decisions she made really peeved me, especially about Ice Boy. I got to where I thought she did not deserve Naji. But that's why I give this book three stars.

However, the story and mythology was impeccable. The plot was marvelous and exciting.

It should've been one whole book!

I can not comprehend how stupid must have been the person who decided to split the book into two separate book.
Stupid.
The sum is better than its two parts. Always.

satisfactory conclusion to the story

this book wrapped up the tale started in the first book nicely. I wish more time had been spent explaining the star stones and the event that happened around them. I also would have enjoyed having the empire pirate character, whose last name started with an 'e', flushed out rather just using him to randomly push the story along or annoy the main character.
