Intriguing!

I found this book by following one of my favorite narrators, who did an awesome job interchanging her voice pitch along with various accents for this book. I would actually give this book a 4 1/2, only because as a Caribbean woman myself, I took slight offense to the seductive connotations placed on the main female characters. I was debating about getting this audiobook, I thought I would have been bored, or so appalled about the under aged relationship, but not that much to my surprise. The premise of the storyline is supposed to be fiction, yet it makes you wonder. There is also lots of informative non-fiction history as well. After I listened to the first part of the audiobook, it left me intrigued with Errol Flynn. I searched the internet to learn more about him. I remember dreaming about Flynn and the characters that night. I guess I also pitied Flynn for his deeds, in the book and in real life. I also wished the author give us more privy to the relationship between him and Ida.

In the middle of the audiobook, you begin to get a better feel of the main female characters and their relationship with others and their homeland Jamaica. This is where the storyline starts to revolve more around them. Also, I truly appreciate how the author wrote the story mainly in its timeline order, and not that back and forth jumping some authors do. In all, the entire story left me fulfilled, yet intriguingly haunted for some reason. I would love to sit down and chat with the author. Well done!

Extremely well done historical fiction on Jamaica

Based on the idea of Errol Flynn's ties with Jamaica, this story of three generations tied to Jamaica with a love of the beauty it offers, makes you long to be there yourself. Although reckless actions driven by passion become engrained in the lead characters, it makes for a great albeit selfish story.

A good book club story

What did you like best about The Pirate's Daughter? What did you like least?

The thing I liked most and least about this book is that there was a lot going on. It seemed like there were 3 books in this one book. I like this because it made for easy discussion for our book club. I don't like it because there was just too much jumping around. Instead of connecting small stories, write one well thought out one.

Would you be willing to try another book from Margaret Cezair-Thompson? Why or why not?

I would not, I didn't think this one looked good but kind of got roped into it via book club.

Which scene was your favorite?

I always liked it when Ida went to visit her grandmother.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No, this would not make a good movie... too much jumping around from scene to scene, from country to country, etc.
