Historia
Over 120 years after Oscar Wilde submitted The Picture of Dorian Gray for publication, the uncensored version of his novel appears here for the first time in audio. This volume restores material, including instances of graphic homosexual content, removed by the novel's first editor, who feared it would be "offensive" to Victorians.

Devilishly attractive Lord Illingworth is notorious for his skill as a seducer. But he is still invited to all the "best" houses, while his female conquests must hide their shame in seclusion. A tender love story, a serpentine villainess, a glittering setting in London society, and a showering of Wildean witticism are only a few of the reasons why this play has enjoyed hugely successful revivals in London, in New York, and on the silver screen. This 1895 drama is eerily prescient, as it examines the plight of a promising politician, desperate to hide a secret in his past. With empathy and wit, Oscar Wilde explores the pitfalls of holding public figures to higher standards than the rest of us.

This final play from the pen of Oscar Wilde is a stylish send-up of Victorian courtship and manners, complete with assumed names, mistaken lovers, and a lost handbag. Jack and Algernon are best friends, both wooing ladies who think their names are Ernest, "that name which inspires absolute confidence". Wilde's effervescent wit, scathing social satire, and high farce make this one of the most cherished plays in the English language.

Tolstoy’s autobiographical essay is a dissection of his soul, a study of his life’s movement away from the religious certainties of youth, and a vital piece of reading which contextualizes the great works he is best known for. Marking the point at which his life moved from the worldly to the spiritual, Tolstoy’s philosophical reassessment of the Orthodox faith is a work that holds vital spiritual and intellectual importance to this very day.

Resumen del Editor
The Picture of Dorian Gray has had an enduring impact on society - one that shows no signs of diminishing any time soon. Since the inimitable Oscar Wilde first created this seductive thriller, countless fans have been chilled by his unflinching look at the darker side of human nature. A look made even more chilling, perhaps, by the recognition - if we are truly honest with ourselves - that inside each of us lurks a little bit of Dorian Gray.

It’s a story of a country mouse and a city mouse: 14-year-old Polly Milton travels to Boston for a stay with her friend Fanny Shaw. The wealthy Shaws’ way of life is foreign to Polly who tries to adapt but is quickly labeled “old-fashioned”. Self-made American millionaire Christopher Newman arrives in Paris brimming with hope and optimism, excited to experience the culture and, hopefully, find the perfect woman to become his wife. After a chance encounter with American expatriate friends, his attention is drawn to Madame de Cintré, 25-year-old widowed daughter of the late Marquis de Bellegarde. Having fallen on hard times, the centuries-old aristocratic family permits Newman's courtship to proceed; however, they later persuade the widow to break off her engagement to the nouveau-riche businessman.

Historia
E. M. Forster's first novel is a witty comedy of manners that is tinged with tragedy. It tells the story of Lilia Herriton, who proves to be an embarrassment to her late husband's family as, in the small Tuscan town of Monteriano, she begins a relationship with a much younger Italian man - classless, uncouth, and highly unsuitable. A subtle attack on Edwardian values and a humanely sympathetic portrayal of the clash of two cultures, Where Angels Fear to Tread is also a profound exploration of character and virtue.

Historia
Honoré de Balzac uses his classic style of detail to describe a most controversial setting in his novel Le Pere Goriot. The story takes place in Paris just after the fall of Napoleon in 1819. The story focuses on three characters, Rastignac, a student who wants to try and make it big in the capital, Vautrin, an interesting and funny character who is also quite mysterious, and the main character, Goriot, that carries a heavy burden that only a loving parent would endure.

Historia
One of the greatest prose writers and social commentators of the 20th century, Aldous Huxley here introduces us to a delightfully cynical, comic, and severe group of artists and intellectuals engaged in the most free-thinking and modern kind of talk imaginable. Poetry, occultism, ancestral history, and Italian primitive painting are just a few of the subjects competing for discussion among the amiable cast of eccentrics drawn together at Crome, an intensely English country manor.

Historia
Perhaps Blackwood's most celebrated story, The Willows was influenced heavily by his own trips down the Danube River. It tells the story of two campers who pick the wrong place to sleep for the night, a place where another dimension impinges on our own. H.P. Lovecraft considered this the finest supernatural tale in English literature.

Classic story, good choice for students.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
The book is a classic, that has aged well, The story presents the reader with a "what if" and leads the reader down the main character's journey of morality (good vs evil). This book does have some suggestive moments where the characters appear to have more than a friendly relationship; and is often presented as an early example of LGBTQ literature.
The narrator did an excellent job and has a pleasant bass voice that did not distract when changing to female characters.
The only fault I could find was that at the end of each chapter were posed some study questions. While good questions I was not expecting them, they allow the listener to think about the previous chapter. Overall, I was very pleased with the narration and the questions

Talented Voice Artist
Great classic novel with an excellently talented voice artist. I took one star off because I detest novels infected by the “discussion questions” at the end of chapters. Ruined the experience for me, though the voice artist kept me listening. I always find the questions hideous or inane, plus they toss me right out of the story like a sudden cocktail of hot vinegar thrown in my face. If this is the AOG business model, fine, but I would beg the producers to stop this format. I received a free copy for an honest review.

An Interesting Listen
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review. A true classic of a time that was very shallow and self centered, especially the main character Dorian Gray. One simple wish for youthful beauty changed his life forever. A thought provoking novel that will make you wonder about yourself and what you'd do to achieve you greatest desire. The Picture of Dorian Gray is a tale that never ages.

Interesting read
This classic by Oscar Wilde was narrated very well by C.J. McAllister. I found it hard to understand at times, but the reading was very well done and enjoyable.
