Comprehensive story of the Paraguayan War

The story and the details were great. The narrator was horrible. Terrible mispronunciation of Spanish words. He even mispronounced words like "consort" as "concert." The book would have been excellent but they got the worst guy to read it.

Good synopsis of the War

I liked the descriptions of the main characters and battles of the war. However, there were too many instances where the writer stated that an event may or may not have happened. This detracted somewhat from the credibility of the piece. On the other hand, at least the researchers were humble enough to be honest.

When Hubris Backfires

This mostly unknown history of the War of the Triple Alliance, where Paraguay attacked Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina had long reaching ramifications for South America, and decimated Paraguay's male population. It is a fascinating read.

First time commenting on a reader’s performance….

…but that was a tough listen. The upwards inflection at the end of every sentence gets so old, so fast. And, it seems the reader did absolutely no homework on pronunciations. The reader seemed uninvested in this project, and that was disappointing.

Painful to listen to…

This is the worst narration I’ve ever heard. The pronunciation clearly came from someone who has no experience speaking or even hearing Spanish, Portuguese, or Guaraní. Not only was the pronunciation VERY inaccurate - even for anglicization - but it was inconsistently changed from passage to passage. The narrator’s reading was also very sing-songy which made this book even more difficult to finish.

The content itself was decent but it sounded like a college freshman wrote this book. The author kept adding in disclaimers which really discredited their own work.

Overall disappointed because I was extremely interested in this topic. Completing this book has become a chore rather than an intriguing source of entertainment.
